While many seek positions of leadership, and are, either, elected, selected, or ascend to these, very few, end up, becoming true leaders, for a variety of reasons. Effectively leading requires a combination of a well – developed, skill – set, and a true, can – do, positive attitude. While I have often, written articles, and a book, as well as hundreds of seminars, training sessions, and consultations, in this area, and emphasize, the essence and necessities of leadership planning, what often differentiates between the rare leader, and the rest – of – the – pack, is whether, and how, one INSPIRES stakeholders, and constituents. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, examine, review, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, some of what this means and represents, and why it is so important and relevant, to becoming that rare leader.

1. Integrity; ideas; imagination: Although, most proclaim their commitment, and personal integrity, there is a significant difference, between saying it, and demonstrating, one’s absolute integrity. Why should anyone be inspired, or, even listen to you, if they don’t believe, you mean, what you say? It’s important to possess and use a relevant imagination, in order to introduce the relevant, sustainable. meaningful ideas, which will make a viable difference, for the better!

2. Needs; nerve: Leading must be based on learning the needs, goals and priorities, as well as perceptions of stakeholders (actual and potential)! Before considering leadership, look, introspectively, and proceed, with the nerve, to be, the best, you can possibly be!

3. Sustainable; system; solutions: Create, develop, and introduce, a relevant, sustainable system, focused on viable solutions, to serve the best interests of the group!

4. Image; involve; important: Consider whether the image, you portray, will help, involve others, in a more committed way! Will you make membership, important and relevant, to others, and how?

5. Relevant; responsive; responsibility: Many say their ideas are relevant, but, much of the time, it’s just, a rehashed – version, of the same – old, same – old! Great leaders are consistently, responsive, and assume the responsibility, rather than proceeding in the negative, blame – and – complain, manner!

5. Empathy; emphasis; excellence; endurance; energy: Meaningfully leading, must begin, with the willingness and commitment, to always, listen, far more than speaking, realizing you do not have all the answers, and it is important to learn from every conversation, and proceed, with genuine empathy. This means, effectively listening, and learning, the needs, goals, priorities, and perceptions, of those, you serve and represent. Never accept good – enough, but demand your utmost level of personal excellence, and proceed, with the endurance to proceed forward, despite obstacles, and introduce the level of energy, that inspires and motivates others!

Are you the right person, to INSPIRE others, in a quality, focused, way? Are you up to the task?
